City government month is a grassroots awareness campaign of the Kentucky League of Cities that helps to educate the public about importance of local government. The program has the goal of making civics education fun and engaging.
The program consists of 15 lesson plans which are designed for grades third through fifth, but could easily be adapted for any grade level. These plans can be used over a three-week time frame or individually. Additionally, on the interactive map in the "Kids Zone" of the website, you will find additional online resources that may be used for each lesson.
To further enhance their usefulness, the lessons are tied directly to the Kentucky statewide learning goals and academic expectations. City Government Month includes an implementation guide, lesson plans, a coloring and activity book, an interactive website, sample downloads, and promotional items.
We encourage you to reach out to your local city government officials and invite them to participate in your City Government Month lessons. We have included materials to help maximize the results of the program including a sample city proclamation and news release contained in the "News & Media" tab above.
